Modern interior design is an interior decorating style characterized by a monochromatic color palette, clean lines, minimalism, natural materials, and natural light. It refers specifically to a historical aesthetic movement that took place during the early to mid-twentieth century.
Farmhouse style is an interior decorating style that prioritizes practicality, simplicity, and rustic charm. While farmhouse style tends to reflect the aesthetics of rural architecture, it also embraces modern comforts, creating a look that feels both cozy and stylish.
Minimalist interior decorating is very similar to modern interior decorating and involves using the bare essentials to create a simple and uncluttered space. It's characterised by simplicity, clean lines, and a monochromatic palette with colour used as an accent.
Maximalism is the art of more-is-more; layered patterning, highly saturated colors, ample accessories and art (likely hung "salon-style"), and a real sense of playfulness and bold gestures.
At its core, industrial decorating involves creating a space that feels like it was once used for industrial purposes. Industrially designed spaces often share common elements like concrete floors, high ceilings, steel and timber architectural elements, and expansive windows, among others.
Rustic interior decorating represents a natural, rough, aged, and casual design style. The category is broad and incorporates a range of variations on the style, including Tuscan, coastal, cottage and modern rustic. Regardless of the variation, rustic style highlights rugged, natural beauty.
Traditional style often includes silk, linen and velvet upholstery and window coverings in damask, florals, stripes and plaids with ornately detailed dark wood, inspired by 18th and 19th century designs. Layered in color and texture, traditional style interiors bring a sense of history and glamour to a space.
The sand, driftwood, rope, shells, and the light reflecting off the water create a soothing ambiance for a Coastal Style. Incorporate those traits in a way that's clean and simple. The goal is to incorporate that sun-kissed breeze, that sense of relaxation indoors without the mess of sand.
Multi-functional design is when either a space or an item has more than one use. Examples of multifunctional design could be a day bed (that acts as seating through the day and is for sleeping at night) or a fold-out table which can be used as a desk for part of the day and a dining table for mealtimes
Promotes introspection through distinct elements: from architectural composition, resulting in less physical and visual divisions, to decoration, which are intended to be essential elements which let us be in harmony with our surroundings.
In the design world, chic interior decorating typically means elegant, fashionable and trendy. There is no single definition of a "chic design" meaning. Although the word has French origins, chic can be used to describe practically any style with a casual, understated look that is still hip, fresh, updated and modern.
Bohemian styles are defined by a lack of structure, opting instead for carefree layers of pattern, texture, and color. While there are some common practices with the bohemian look, there are no hard and fast rules like there are with modern or minimalist.
